On 22 January the Chinese Year 4.720 begins. According to Chinese astrology and its 12-year cycle, 2023 is considered to be the beginning of the 20th century. Year of the Rabbit.

Features of the Chinese New Year:

  • Chinese New Year is the biggest holiday in China. The celebrations last for 15 days and end with the Lantern Festival. The first 3 days are considered holidays.
  • The Chinese celebrate New Year’s Eve with lots of fireworks, as they believe that noise drives away evil spirits.
  • Red is the dominant colour that symbolizes fire, which is believed to ward off bad luck.
  • The festive table includes chicken or fish based dishes and of course Noodles. Noodles symbolize longevity, which is why when they are cooked, they make sure they don’t break.
