Saganaki with Coconut, Sriracha with Family Noodles!
Shrimp saganaki is a creative fusion dish that preserves the structure and essence of the classic Greek saganaki, while introducing aromatic elements from Asian cuisine. Tomato, feta cheese, and olive oil provide the familiar Greek foundation, while coconut, sriracha, and umami-rich notes transform the dish into something more modern and layered in flavour, without losing its original character.
We begin by preparing the sauce, which forms the heart of the dish. In a pan, we heat olive oil and sauté onion and garlic until they soften and become naturally sweet. We then add grated tomato and let the mixture simmer gently until it thickens, building the classic saganaki base.
Next, we add the shrimp and cook them until they turn a vibrant pink. At this point, we bring in the fusion element: coconut milk and a touch of sriracha from Oriental Express are added, along with a small amount of sushi dipping sauce for extra depth. The sauce becomes creamier and develops a balance of sweetness, acidity, and spicy heat.
We also boil the family noodles according to the package instructions and set them aside to serve alongside the saganaki.
To finish, we crumble in feta cheese, allowing it to gently melt into the hot sauce, bringing everything together while adding its essential salty richness. A pinch of oregano enhances the dish’s Greek character, and if desired, a touch of fresh basil can be added for an aromatic lift and freshness.
The result is a shrimp saganaki dish with Asian influences. It delivers a rich depth of flavour, a creamy texture, and a pleasant, balanced spiciness.
